If you’ve ever been burned, scammed, or suspicious that something isn’t right, or perhaps you want to learn more about protecting yourself or a loved one, you’re in the right place.\n\nListen up folks, seven million Social Security numbers get exposed every single day. That’s like the entire population of Massachusetts having their most precious nine digits thrown around like confetti at a Patriots parade. Wicked shady, if you ask me.\n\nHere’s how it happens. Healthcare companies treat your SSN like a sticky note on a computer monitor. One breach at a hospital and boom, thousands of numbers floating around the dark web. Then you’ve got people posting their Medicare cards on Facebook asking about benefits. Might as well hand your wallet to a stranger at Dunkin.\n\nBut here’s the kicker, phishing emails claiming to be from Social Security are everywhere. They’ll say your number’s suspended. News flash, Social Security doesn’t suspend numbers like it’s a misbehaving third grader.\n\nWant to protect yourself? Freeze your credit faster than a New England pond in January. Sign up for monitoring services. Never give your SSN over the phone unless you initiated the call. And for crying out loud, shred documents before tossing them.\n\nThis is Steven Chayer with the DisputeVoice Podcast Show. Remember, scammers count on shaming their victims to keep them silent.
